象牙塔（Ivory tower），法語(yǔ)譯la tour d'ivoire，根據(jù)圣經(jīng)《舊約雅歌》第7章第4節(jié)，睿智富有的以色列王所羅門曾作詩(shī)歌1005首，其中愛情之歌《雅歌》第五首歌中由來(lái)的。詩(shī)歌中描寫道，新郎是這樣贊美新娘的，“…Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your eyes are pools in Heshbon,by the gate of Bath-rabbim….”(……你的頸項(xiàng)如象牙塔；你的眼目像希實(shí)本·巴特那拉并門旁的水池；……)。很清楚這里的“象牙塔”只是用來(lái)描述新娘美麗的頸項(xiàng)。
